The Armith Wellness Story
Hearing, Earwax, and...Puzzles
Hearing is one of the five senses of our bodies. It is the primary way that most humans communicate with each other. When our ability to hear is compromised, it affects how we socialize and interact with our world. Humans are gregarious by nature, we need one another to survive and thrive. Losing hearing, whether sudden or gradual, can cause people to withdraw from activities and events. This can lead to loneliness and depression. Optimizing all the factors that contribute to hearing improves quality of life.
Earwax is a natural fluid that our ears make. The correct amount of earwax helps to protect ear skin from infections while acting as a sticky trap to collect and remove dead skin cells. This wax and debris then falls out through microscopic actions of the ear, and through jaw movements like chewing and talking. For most people, they never develop an earwax blockage. For some people though, the earwax gets stuck. It then starts to build-up in the canal. When this happens people may experience muffled hearing, pressure sensations, itching, ringing in the ear, and occasionally dizziness.
Each person and each ear is unique. The ear canal is like a little cave that dead ends at the eardrum. The skin lining the ear canal is highly sensitive and delicate. Each ear canal shape is slightly different in size, contour, and angle. To clean an ear out well, without causing pain or other problems, is a skill that requires expert knowledge, patience, and a love of puzzles. Why puzzles? Well, cleaning an ear is like solving a puzzle. You have to use the correct combination of tools and fine motor skills to solve the puzzle of how to remove the earwax efficiently and comfortably. Satisfaction bonus if the wax comes out in one piece!
