Frequently Asked Questions

What does Armith mean?

The short answer is, it’s made up! However, it is inspired by the Irish goddess of healing and herbalism, Airmid.

Do you provide medical care for problems like ear infections?

No, we are not a medical clinic. For this reason we do not diagnose or treat medical conditions and we do not prescribe medication. Our services are maintenance and preventative. Meaning we help people maintain normal earwax health, which can help prevent medical problems from happening.

What if it’s not earwax making my ears feel this way?

We will refer you to a medical provider who can help diagnose and treat you for your symptoms.

Do you perform hearing tests?

No, we do not perform hearing tests at this time.

Can you remove things like hearing aid domes, cotton, or ear plug foam stuck in the ear?

Yes, we have a special tool that can grab onto and pull-out soft, pliable items.

Can you remove things like large beads, LEGO pieces, or other hard objects stuck in the ear?

No, you will still have to go to an ENT provider to have those removed.

Can you remove bugs from an ear?

Eep! Yes. Luckily we live in Colorado and it’s very rare to get a bug stuck in your ear here.

Do you take medical insurance?

No, our services are routine, self-care (think along the lines of getting a hair cut) and not medical care (going to the doctor).

What ages do you see?

We see people 10 years old and older. Most of our clients are 60 and older.

How often do my ears need to be cleaned?

It depends! Some people need ear cleanings once per year. For others it’s every 3 months. To know how often is best for you, we play it by ear (pun intended).

How do I schedule with you?

The best way to schedule services is to send an email to schedule@armithwellness.com. Our schedule is slightly different each week because our services are mobile and we’re in different parts of the Denver Metro area everyday.

Where are you located?

Our services are mobile, so we come to you! Our office is based in Denver, but we can drive to most locations along the front range. There is an additional charge for locations over 30 miles away from downtown Denver (18th and Franklin).

I’ve used Qtips after every shower for my whole life, is that an easy way to keep my ears clean?

No. While Qtips do fit very well in ear canal openings, they are not a good way to clean ears. In fact, they are harmful for ears.

Not only do they push earwax further into the ear canal, but they can create problems. These problems include scratching the skin causing bleeding in the ear or the cotton from the Qtip end falling off and getting stuck in the ear. In severe events, the Qtip can pop through the eardrum. Sometimes this even disconnects the tiny bones inside the ear. This worst case scenario can cause permanent hearing damage.

You may be thinking, “I haven’t had any problems my whole life. Plus, I don’t go that far in with my Qtips.” That may be true, but the distance between the ear opening and the eardrum is shorter than most people think. In many cases shorter than the length of the cotton tip on the Qtip. It’s very easy to accidentally damage your ear when you put things into it. Remember, it takes only one event to cause a major problem. Best to leave ear cleaning to the professionals.

What’s the best way to dry my ears after swimming?

A simple mixture of rubbing alcohol and vinegar is a great way to dry out the ears. Follow the instructions here and you’ll be safely drying your ears in no time!

You mention that you don’t use water, is your service like ear candling?

Good question! No, our services are very different from ear candling. Ear candling is an alternative, “one-size-fits-all” approach to ears. The candling procedure itself does not remove any earwax. The debris inside of the candle cone at the end of the session is the melted/burned candle material itself. Plus, ear candling significantly increases the risk of burning your head and face! Ear candling is actively discouraged by medical associations and boards because there are only risks and no benefits to it.
